Yard of the Month
Purpose
The purpose of the Munford, Tennessee Yard of the Month Program is to promote an award for exemplary lawn and yard care. The Program will recognize citizens living within the city limits of Munford, TN, who demonstrate exceptional efforts to maintain and improve their property in a manner that contributes to the overall appearance of the community at large.
General Criteria
Yards within the city limits of Munford, Tennessee will be judged solely on the total exterior appearance of their property and front yard as viewed from the street. The criteria and guidelines will be shown in full on the City of Munford website.
Guidelines
The Yard of the Month Program will run from May through October. The sign indicating this award will remain in the yard for one month. The winner’s name, and a picture of the yard will be placed on the City of Munford website www.munford.com and on the City’s Facebook page.
- All citizens who live within the Munford city limits are automatically eligible.
- Nominations for Yard of the Month will be accepted until the 10th of each month, and can be submitted through our website munford.com Those nominations will remain in the pool for the next month, unless chosen as a winner.
- Awards will be announced mid-month and continue for a duration of one month. Durations may vary due to judging schedules and weather.
- Award winners are selected based on the judging criteria, factors and guidelines listed on this document.
- No more than one Yard of the Month recipient will be selected in a single month.
- The same property cannot win more than once in the judging season (May – October).
- The upkeep of the yard can reflect the effort of the residents themselves or that of a professional landscaper or groundskeeper.
- During the month while an individual’s home is being recognized as City of Munford Yard of the Month, they are expected to maintain their yard in the same manner that allowed them to win the title.
- Winners must be willing to have photos of their yard taken and published on the City’s website and on the City’s social media page. Winners must be contacted prior to releasing information to the website.
General Judging Factors
Judging factors include the overall appearance, tidiness, and neatness of the front of the property. Judges will utilize the following factors when selecting Yard of the Month winners:
A-Yard Maintenance
- Healthy lawn neatly mowed.
- Healthy, living plants.
- Minimum weeds in flowerbeds.
- Yard free of debris and clutter.
B-Design and Landscaping
- Use of color and texture.
- Creative, unique curb appeal.
- Overall aesthetic appeal.
- Pleasing appearance that makes the property an asset to the community.
Award Schedule
Award winners will be selected as close to the middle of each month as possible. The winner will confirm their willingness to participate upon being contacted. If the first participant/selection declines to participate, the City of Munford Yard of the Month committee will then choose another property.
Awards
All award winners receive an official “Yard of the Month” lawn sign to be placed on their property for the duration of their award as well as a proclamation naming the winner for each of the following months: May, June, July, August, September & October.
Judging
The City of Munford Yard of the Month Judging Committee consists of representatives of the City and will serve as judge. The judge’s decision is final.
